Review: John Varvatos 2.0 Fall 2018 Collection
Showing a little over a week early than the official New York Fashion Week schedule, John Varvatos set up his fall 2018 collection debut around a big weekend in NYC! The Grammys took place Sunday night where artist Gary Clark Jr and Anthony Hamilton walked the red carpet in gear from the designer. Saturday, he threw a celeb-packed party celebrating his upcoming spring collaboration with Nick Jonas, and kicking off the festive week was the John Varvatos 2.0 show in the lower east side.
More rough and rugged than your usual John Varvatos look, layering and textures were the main focal point for this fall lineup. Suit separates paired with leather and suede trainers replaced you traditional two-piece suiting and hard bottom combo. Cold weather accessories from fingerless knit gloves, skull caps, scarves and exposed wool socks --thank you tucked in pants-- added a nomadic element to crushed velvet pants and full-length shaggy cardigans and the coats were an outwear connoisseur's dream! Ribbed knits with camo detailing peacoats, maroon leather denim style jackets, shearling lined overcoats, there were coats by the layers all different flavors!
At the close of the show, Varvatos stood in front of the showgoers, backed up by a gang of models with Jimi Hendrick's rendition of The National Anthem playing in the background. While the current climate in today's US of A has our fist up in the air in solidarity with Collin Kaepernick when we hear The Star-Spangled Banner, if we're pledging our allegiance to staying dapper for as long we breathe, then in John Varvatos, we trust.
